Before Transmitting the pilot should:

| Make sure that the aircraft is levelled off. |
| Make sure that the emergency frequency is tuned in at the same time. |
| Listen out on the frequency to ensure no interference with another station already transmitting will occur. |
| Always write the message and read it during the transmission. |
